ABOUT US

Hellas Football was born on X, back when it was Twitter, in 2014, when a small group of Australian Greeks, brought together by social media and a shared love of the game, decided to tell the story of Greek football in English.

What began as a simple idea and a bit of fun soon struck a chord, growing organically from casual posts into a platform that now connects a global Greek football-loving community.

Follow Hellas Football on X (formerly Twitter)Facebook and Instagram.

Greg’s foray into Greek football started in the early 1990’s with Greece’s qualification for USA 94, and took ten steps forward from there with AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League in 1994/95.

Michael

Michael first joined Hellas Football back in 2019, and is the founder of our famous motto “Greek Football: the gift that keeps on giving”.

He was born in Larissa and grew up in Brisbane and is an avid supporter of AEL, the only club outside Athens and Thessaloniki to be crowned Greek champions in 1988 along with two Greek Cups in 1985 and 2007.

Although he wasn’t around when the club achieved these historic accolades, Michael saw this as an inspiration to educate the wider audience, offering a unique voice for his beloved AEL, while also taking great pride by sticking to his Larissa-roots all the way from Australia.

Nick Tsambouniaris

Since the inception of Hellas Football in 2014, Nick has been one of the original voices, helping it grow from a passion into a thriving community. A lifelong and unapologetically passionate supporter of Panathinaikos and Aston Villa, he brings that same energy to the weekly podcast, where he is a regular contributor.

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Nick’s heart has always been firmly tied to Greece. He is immensely proud of his heritage, with family roots on the island of Kos, and that love for all things Greek has shaped much of his contribution to Hellas Football.

He was previously also a writer for Agona Sport and today he continues to contribute across the Greek football landscape, as a regular on the PAO Fans International podcast.

Stephen Kountourou

Over lockdown in 2020, Stephen joined Hellas Football where he writes regularly about Greek football and hosts the Hellas Football Podcast on a weekly basis.

He trained at News Associates, while also taking extra curriculum in Sports Journalism. Stephen has worked as a freelancer for several major broadcasters and newspapers including the BBC, The Guardian & talkSPORT.

Stephen is of Greek Cypriot heritage and supports Olympiacos FC as well as both the Greek & Cypriot national teams.
